JENPAS UG 2026 Counselling Process — Step by Step

Counselling is conducted entirely online by WBJEEB. There are typically two main rounds and an additional mop-up round. Seats are allotted based on merit rank, category and college/course preferences entered during counselling.

Step 1: Online Registration for Counselling

After results are declared, eligible candidates must register separately on the WBJEEB counselling portal. Registration is not automatic — if you skip this step, you cannot participate.

Step 2: Payment of Counselling Registration Fee

A registration fee must be paid online to complete the counselling sign-up. The fee amount is announced along with the counselling schedule.

Step 3: Choice Filling & Locking

Candidates select and rank their preferred colleges and courses. After the deadline, choices are locked. The order in which you rank your preferences directly affects your allotment, so prioritise carefully.

Step 4: Seat Allotment Result

WBJEEB publishes the allotment list after each round. Two main rounds plus a mop-up round are conducted. Seats in the merit list are distributed category-wise.

Step 5: Seat Acceptance Fee (?1,000)

To download the allotment letter, you must pay a seat acceptance fee of ?1,000. Failure to pay within the deadline will cancel your allotment and you will be excluded from further rounds.

Step 6: Document Verification at Allotted College

Candidates must report physically to their allotted college with original documents — Class 10 & 12 marksheets, domicile certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), admit card and rank card — for final verification and admission.

Important: Certain universities run their own separate admission process outside of WBJEEB counselling. Always check the specific college's website in addition to the main portal.

Two Merit Rank Lists Explained

WBJEEB prepares two separate merit lists after the exam. The General Merit Rank (GMR) is for candidates who appeared in Paper I and covers all courses except BHA. The BHA Merit Rank (BMR) is for Paper II takers. Candidates who sat for both papers will appear in both lists simultaneously.
